Bavaria produce two models of the Bavaria 40 Cruiser, and this one is the 40S. This is the sporty version of standard Cruiser and has a deeper keel, and larger sail plan to assist with performance. The layout is the same as the normal cruiser and this yacht is aimed at those who want an improved performance while still having a very comfortable cruising yacht. This model has the main sheet traveller in the cockpit, as against the conventional cruiser where it is on deck. This helps with the performance, but it is something that anyone purely interested in relaxed sailing may find is a bit of trip hazard, although when the sheet is pushed on one side, it is just a matter of stepping over the low track which is at about shin height. This yacht has twin composite wheels and all rigging is also beefed up to allow for the additional performance. This model normally has a Bimini, that can be used when sailing, but as with all yachts that has the mainsheet traveller on deck, the Bimini can only cover the immediate helm area when sailing and cannot extend over the cockpit. Once at anchor then extensions or a boom tent can be put on to provide additioinal shade. |
