Elan 494 Impression
The Elan 494 is designed to provide fast cruising and easy handling, even when short handed. The hull shape and rig are optimised to ensure a stable platform in all conditions whether going downwind or to windward. It has twin wheels and rudders and all sheets are led aft so the helmsman can trim the sails using winches that are directly in front of the wheels. Down below there is a light and open raised saloon with lots of hull windows and portlights, and this is located directly under the companionway to make use of the maximum beam at this point. The galley is U shaped and located forward, and then in addition to 3, 4 or five cabins depending on the layout, the saloon also converts into a very comfortable double.
