Learn to Sail a yacht while on flotilla for one week and then Skipper the yacht yourself, as part of the flotilla for a second week.

This holiday is ideal for people that do not have enough experience to sail a yacht on their own, but who want to get some training as well as having a two week flotilla holiday. The first week you have a Learn to Sail course and then the second you skipper a yacht yourself as part of the flotilla.

Couples or just two people will be on a shared yacht with an instructor and other students for the first week and will then sail a yacht on their own the second week. Both weeks you sail as part of the flotilla.

Families and groups of three or more, will be on a yacht on their own with an instructor for the first week and will then skipper a yacht themselves the second week. Both weeks you sail as part of the flotilla.

This holiday is effectively a mix of a "one week Learn to Sail Holiday" and a "one week Flotilla Sailing Holiday". It normally appeals to people with some previous relevant boating experience, and it is an ideal way to get to get your first Skippering Experience and qualifications. During the first week you have a flotilla holiday while being trained to a Flotilla Skipper level and then the second week you then get a chance to skipper a yacht yourself, while still under the overall guidance of the flotilla leaders. What makes this combination so good from a training point of view is that not only do you get a weeks training but you immediately follow on with a weeks practical experience while what you have learned is fresh in your mind. It is particularly suited to families where only one person is aiming to actually get to a skippering level but the rest of the family, young children included, get trained as crew while also having a family holiday.

All training follows the IYT syllabus for International Crew and Flotilla Skipper, and you go away from the holiday with skippers certification that will enable you to skipper yachts yourself elsewhere in non tidal waters in the future. Anybody that has already got a reasonable amount of prior knowledge on Navigation and Seamanship can also have an ICC assessment, so they can get a more formal Licence. This latter is for UK and Irish citizens or residents only. You can view more on the IYT qualifications and ICC here

The prices below are based on having a 31 ft yacht for both weeks (First 305 or Elan 31) except for couples who will be sharing with other students for the for the tuition week, and may be on a different yacht the first week. These yachts are ideal for learning on and comfortable for up to four adults or families of five where there are younger children. We can also offer our larger three cabin 34 ft and 35 ft yachts and include the supplement below for these.

This holiday is mainly aimed at people that already have some prior sailing or boating experience, but we can offer it to those without any prior experience, provided that they are happy to have a slightly busier first week while training.

All Prices here are for the total number of people indicated excluding flights and transfers.

These bookings involve being on board your own 31 ft yacht with an instructor and no other clients for the tuition week, and then on the yacht on your own for the second week. Where possible you will be on the same yacht both weeks. There are then the following additional on site cash payments

  • £110/120€ (total, not per person) to cover 2 Log Books and certification costs, fuel for both weeks, and the security deposit insurance for the yacht for the second week.

  • a tourist tax of 1 Euro per person per day

Yacht fuel is included in the above, but all on board provisioning and all mooring and National park entry fees are extras to be paid on site.  As a guide for the latter you can expect these to be somewhere in the region of 175€ to 275€ for the two weeks depending on the number of marinas used. On board provisioning will be from local shops. Please remember that you must also include the instructor for all onboard provisioning during the tuition week.  With this option the instructor sleeps on board the yacht at night during the first week.  Depending on availability we can often arrange that the instructor does not sleep on board at night on payment of a supplement and we can also offer the same holiday on larger yachts. Please contact the office to discuss these options.
