The island of Murter is where we base our flotillas from and where we offer shore based accommodation and have our Drascombe Luggers for day sailing.  Any of our 31ft  yachts can also be taken on a day sailing basis, returning to our base marina each evening.  This option is particularly suitable for groups that want to stay ashore, but still have access to a yacht by day. The island is is positioned just off the main Croatian coast, about 60 miles North of Split, and joined to it by a lifting bridge at Tisno.  It is about 11kms at its longest point and 3kms at its widest. panoramic of murter harbour looking north  The area between the mainland and the Island createsa perfect day sailing area, as you are protected on all sides and there are numerous bays and  small islands to sail to.   There are three marinas on the Island, one at Betina, one at Jezera and one at Hramina by Murter town itself.  Our in house flotilla fleet is based from Betina, but we offer Bareboats from all the marinas.  To locate Murter relative to the rest of Croatia click here.
Murter runs from North to South, with North being to the left in the map below.  Murter town is the biggest settlement, and in the North of the Island.  From a practical point of view Betina and Murter can be considered to be extensions of each other and are a ten to fifteen minute walk apart. There is a regular bus service to Sibenik, also suitable for anybody wishing to visit Jezera or Tisno, on the south of the island and bicycles, mopeds and motor boat hire is all available locally.  From Murter town it is again a ten to fifteen minute walk to the west side of the Island through the olive groves.  The island has numerous small pebbly coves and beaches, which are ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Those on the western side have views out to the Kornati Islands and offer some spectacular sunsets. There are no big developments or complexes, with most of the accommodation being in either self catering apartments or campsites.  In July and August you can expect everywhere to be full of life, while it is a lot quieter during the other months.

Tourist Map of Murter Island

The picture opposite shows the large U-shaped bay and town Murter Harbour looking southof Murter, with Hramina marina on the left.  The buildings  directly behind on the left are Betina, while in the top centre of the picture, you can just make out Tisno, where the bridge to the mainland is. You can immediately see why it is such a suitable and safe Day Sailing area. Murter is the main administrative centre for the Kornati Islands and national park  and in the main harbour there are numerous tour boats offering day trips out to the islands.  In the  town there are tourist offices where you can rent mopeds, bicycles, small motor boats or pick from a selection of tours to nearby locations of interest such as the Kyrka waterfalls, or day trips to Sibenik or Zadar.  Diving is available for both beginners and experienced divers, with a number of schools and full training is available if required.  Jet ski and Rib hire is also available.  Cars can be rented from nearby Sibenik.

Jasna's Apartments:

Jasnas apartmentsJasna's Apartments is the general name we give to a group  of one and two bedroom apartments located in the town of Murter itself.  The main block is owned by Jasna and  Ivan who lived in Australia for 30 years before returning in the mid 90's.  They both speak English and are more than happy to help in any way to ensure that you  get the most out of your holiday.  The apartments are located in a very quiet area and surrounded by other similar properties. They are at the right hand end of the town in the picture above and just a few minutes walk from the sea and beach in the harbour area, and about ten minutes from the beaches on the outside of the island.  They are about five minutes from the centre.  On the left you can see Jasna's own apartments, which consists of a block of two, two bedroom apartments  and two studios.  All are fully self contained, have their own kitchen facilities, shower and WC and outside seating or terrace area.   To the right of the block is another building which is known as the summer kitchen and which guests are welcome to use.  This has a large outside seating area, a BBQ and is ideal for groups or families that are holidaying together.    A washing machine is also available for a small charge.  In addition to these apartments we also use a number of other similar apartments that are located either alongside and owned by Jasna's neighbour's, or close by in the town.  In all cases the owners live in the apartments themselves and they all have a friendly family feeling.

The above apartments are the ones that we have based our Sample Packages of one week ashore and one week aboard on.  The apartments can also be booked without any yachting element for people wishing to spend one or two weeks ashore, and just taking our Drascombe Luggers for a few days day sailing.  Subject to availability they can  be booked for any number of nights making them ideal for anybody wanting to spend a few extra days on Murter in addition to a sailing week.  Drascombe Lugger Day SailingWe have several Drascombe Luggers available for hire. These Drascombe Lugger sailingboats are based either in Betina Marina  or from Murter town main quay.  Both of these locations are between a five to fifteen minute walk from the above apartments.  The Drascombe Lugger is a little over 5mt long and is a very proven boat.  It has a simple ketch rig with a furling jib and  a loose footed mainsail  meaning there is no boom to bang you head on. They are not designed for speed, but rather for comfortable day sailing and can carry up to a maximum of five.  They float in under 30cm of water, but with the heavy steel centreplate down draw almost one meter.  They all come with a set of oars and a small outboard motor.  They can be sailed by any dinghy sailor and are virtually uncapsizable.  They are restricted to the area and islands around the northern end of Murter as well as the area between Murter and the mainland down as far as the bridge at Tisno. They can be either matched up with one of our holiday packages or added to any other holiday you put together yourself.  They are available for rent in periods of two days at a time.
